MMG Welcomes Dr Francisco Martínez Saborido as Director of Clinical Strategy & Innovation

My Medical Gateway is proud to announce the appointment of Dr Francisco Martínez Saborido, MD, as Director of Clinical Strategy & Innovation. A senior Family Health Specialist with over 30 years of experience across Spain, the UK and the Cayman Islands, Dr Martínez brings exceptional expertise in family, emergency and legal medicine. He will lead MMG’s strategic development of hospital and healthcare partnerships, beginning with Canada, to drive sustainable, patient-centred healthcare growth in new international markets.

My Medical Gateway is delighted to welcome Dr Francisco Martínez Saborido, MD, as Director of Clinical Strategy & Innovation. His appointment marks a significant step in MMG’s international expansion, bringing more than three decades of global medical leadership to our mission of building accessible, high-quality healthcare systems around the world.

Dr Martínez’s career has spanned Spain, the United Kingdom and the Cayman Islands, covering a breadth of disciplines that few physicians can match. A specialist in Family and Community Medicine, he has also worked extensively in legal, forensic, occupational and emergency medicine. His work reflects a consistent vision of medicine as both a science and a service – one that must adapt to the realities of each community while remaining grounded in professional ethics and patient-centred care.

His medical foundation was laid in Spain, where he began as a family doctor in rural practice, combining community medicine with academic study in assessment medicine at the University of Barcelona. His specialist training through Spain’s Ministry of Health prepared him for a career defined by versatility and intellectual rigour. He later served in Emergency Medicine at Hospital Central de la Defensa Gómez Ulla, one of Spain’s leading military hospitals, where he honed the clinical precision and crisis-management skills that would define his later leadership roles. At the same time, he pursued a growing interest in legal and forensic medicine, building expertise in medical evaluation, ethics and accountability.

Over the following decades, Dr Martínez established himself as one of Europe’s leading figures in medico-legal practice and medical administration. He held senior medical directorships at major European insurance companies, including Baloise, Winterthur, and Groupama, managing case assessments, clinical standards, and claims strategy. As head of malpractice case management for the Madrid Healthcare System through Willis Iberia, he oversaw complex investigations requiring both medical insight and judicial understanding. He also served frequently as an expert witness in court, testifying in high-profile cases that demanded an exacting command of medical evidence and procedure. This combination of clinical experience and legal acumen shaped his ability to design systems that are both medically sound and operationally transparent.

In 2019, Dr Martínez co-founded Integra Healthcare in Grand Cayman, where he continues to serve as Medical Director. Conceived as an integrated model of family, paediatric and urgent care, Integra has grown into the largest private outpatient clinic in the Cayman Islands, recognised for its excellence in clinical practice and its patient-first ethos. Following Integra’s acquisition by Doctors Hospital in 2022, Dr Martínez became a key member of the management team responsible for aligning outpatient and hospital services. His leadership helped ensure that the merger delivered on its promise: a seamless continuum of care built around prevention, accessibility and long-term wellbeing.

The success of Integra is emblematic of Dr Martínez’s philosophy that healthcare must be both human and efficient – that the best systems are those designed to anticipate rather than simply react. His ability to move comfortably between the consulting room and the boardroom, between individual patient care and system-level strategy, reflects a career built on integration rather than separation. It is precisely this perspective that makes him such an important addition to MMG at this stage in our development.

At MMG, Dr Martínez will lead the group’s next phase of strategic growth, beginning with the expansion of hospital and healthcare partnerships in Canada. His remit is to ensure that MMG’s new ventures meet the highest standards of clinical quality, patient safety, and operational sustainability. Drawing on his global experience, he will help shape scalable care models that adapt to local needs while maintaining the integrity of MMG’s clinical framework.

The challenges facing healthcare today are immense. Across systems, demand is rising faster than capacity, and innovation too often outpaces implementation. What distinguishes Dr Martínez is his ability to balance vision with pragmatism – to build systems that are ambitious but achievable, sophisticated but humane. His leadership will strengthen MMG’s capacity to deliver the same level of clinical excellence and patient trust in every market we enter.

For MMG, his appointment reflects our commitment to bringing together the best of global medicine, innovation and governance to create health systems that endure. For our partners, it signals that MMG’s expansion will be guided by the same professional standards that have defined our work since inception. As MMG moves into new territories and partnerships, Dr Martinez’ vision and experience will be instrumental in ensuring that growth never comes at the expense of quality, and that innovation remains in the service of care.
