If you’re stuck on an NHS waiting list or looking for affordable private surgical treatment, My Medical Gateway (MMG) is here to help. And if you are worried about going abroad to get medical treatment, you don’t need to be. MMG is the world’s first digital medical travel platform designed specifically for UK patients seeking self-pay private healthcare in Europe. Our process is simple, transparent and tailored to your needs – with access to expert care at accredited EU private hospitals at a range of attractive destinations.

Here’s what your journey looks like from start to finish.
Step 1: Book Fast, Book Smart
Booking private medical treatment with MMG is easy. Start by using our website’s search bar to find the treatment you need. Once selected, our fast and easy automated booking system will guide you through the rest – all in just a few clicks.
After your diagnosis is confirmed, you’ll receive three available surgery dates within six weeks. Whether you need orthopaedic surgery, cardiology procedures or diagnostic scans, you’ll be seen fast – no waiting lists, no red tape.
Step 2: Remote Diagnosis – No Need to Travel
With MMG, your initial diagnosis can be done entirely online. This process, known as remote diagnosis, allows you to share your test results directly to your chosen hospital without travelling.
Use trusted UK-based providers like Scan.com or Thriva, both offering discounts for MMG Platform Users, to complete the necessary tests. Your results must be no older than 30 days.
Sample Diagnostic Test Prices:
- Blood tests: £50–£80 (add £50 for home visit)
- ECG: £75–£170
- X-ray or CT scans: £130–£375 (covers most cases)
Your hospital will review your results within 3 working days, ensuring quick turnaround and timely treatment scheduling.
Step 3: No Diagnosis? No Problem
If you don’t yet have a confirmed diagnosis, you’re not alone. Many people are self-referral patients. Just select the treatment that best matches your symptoms – the hospital will confirm your diagnosis before proceeding. If any adjustments are needed, you’ll be notified and only pay the final agreed balance before treatment.
Step 4: Meet Your MMG Care Coordinator
Once booked, you’ll be connected with your English-speaking MMG Coordinator at your chosen hospital. They’ll assist with everything – including:
- Airport transfers
- Pre-op preparation
- Accommodation planning
- Local guidance during your stay
Some patients will stay in the hospital post-op, while others might need a few days in nearby accommodation. Your Coordinator is there to make the process smooth and stress-free.
Step 5: Travel for Surgery – With Confidence
Your arrival at the hospital is fully supported. After pre-surgery safety checks, your procedure goes ahead as planned. In rare cases where the hospital identifies a health risk during final screening, surgery may be postponed or cancelled. This is done for your safety and is standard clinical procedure.
We strongly recommend purchasing medical travel insurance, which protects you from financial loss if surgery is cancelled or needs to be rescheduled.

Step 6: Discharge & Returning to the UK
When your care team approves your discharge, your Coordinator arranges your return. If your MMG Treatment Package includes post-op care, this support continues for a few days after your operation.
All MMG treatment journeys include a remote follow-up review within 90 days of discharge to check your recovery and ensure lasting results.
Step 7: What If Something Goes Wrong?
After your procedure abroad, your hospital provider will supply you with full post-op discharge documentation and monitor your recovery locally, including offering post-op support (see your Healthcare Contract for details). If you experience complications after returning home, contact your provider directly for clinical guidance.
You remain fully entitled to NHS treatment based on clinical need, even if your surgery was private or overseas. In urgent cases, call 111 or 999, or visit your local A&E. For non-urgent concerns, consult your GP and share your discharge summary.
We recommend all patients take out medical travel insurance. To assist the users of our platform, we have negotiated a discounted policy with Sure Insurance Services, whose Medical Travel Shield policy is designed to protect individuals whilst travelling for treatment abroad.
